CONSTRUCTING VCI’S 5-STOREY BUILDING: A JOURNEY OF GROWTH AND PRIORITIZATION

The rapid student population growth at VCI necessitated expanded facilities, including a much-needed library as its cornerstone. As the student population surged, VCI initially focused on constructing additional classrooms. By the end of 2022, the school had invested in a separate building for the Basic Education Department, and extra classrooms and restrooms had been added to Building D. With the classroom expansion in Building D and the Basic Education building, the library construction unfolded.

The VCI Board of Trustees, recognizing the importance of a well-equipped library, has prioritized its construction by approving a significant investment for the library in July 2023. This funding would enhance access to both online and print materials, empowering stakeholders for future endeavors beyond VCI. The library would serve as a vital resource for instruction and research, benefiting students, faculty, and staff. The library would be housed in a 5-storey building, constructed in phases. The initial phase involves three floors. Offices for graduate studies, research, extension, and other administrative functions will be on the ground floor.

The project faces challenges, including unpredictable weather conditions and budget constraints. Despite these hurdles, VCI remains committed to prioritizing the library’s completion by September 2025.

Beyond the library, VCI is considering program expansion. Accreditation for the College of Commerce and College of Education Elementary Education programs is underway. Factors like faculty, research, social involvement, facilities, and organizational development are also in the pipeline. VCI remains dedicated to its core values throughout this endeavor, emphasizing life skills, leadership, and a spirit of service: “Discere et Discere Servire.” The 5-storey building represents physical growth and VCI’s commitment to service.
